Frequently Asked Questions
When are you open?
We are open from April to October. We close during the winter months mainly due to weather, but also to give us the opportunity to do maintenance and to give the alpacas some peace and quiet.
Do I need to book?
We are strictly pre-booking only. We run Christie Alpacas around our 'day jobs' and also limit the number of visitors the alpacas have for their welfare, so have limited slots available. Please get in contact with us, either through our facebook page or by calling/texting 07796665986.
Why can't my child lead his/her own alpaca?
Children aged 14 or over can lead their own alpaca, children below 14 cannot. The reason for this is that alpacas are large and strong animals, and can be unpredictable at times. They can weigh 80 kg (more than a newfoundland dog!) and their instinct is to run if scared, which could potentially result in injury to a child. Children aged 5-13 are still welcome to come along, but an adult must be in control of the alpaca.
What should I wear?
Please wear sensible footwear - ideally wellington boots or hiking boots, but trainers which you don't mind getting mucky are also acceptable. Please don't wear sandals, flipflops, pumps, high heels or any other footwear which isn't fully enclosed and suitable for uneven surfaces. Wearing clothes which you don't mind getting dirty or can easily be washed is also recommended. If it's raining, please wear a waterproof jacket and leave the umbrella at home (they scare the alpacas).
